Zoom (ZM)

It seems like 2020 was the rise of Zoom. Meetings at work, birthday parties, family reunions, and even wine tastings with friends — you name it and people were doing it on Zoom last year. (My family has a weekly Zoom call with people from Europe, DC, Virginia, Colorado, and Chicago so we can all check in with my Grandmother). The Zoom stock became a darling of “Covid stock” lists and it had a record year by increasing around 400%. This is the type of stock that can do wonders for a portfolio and it sure did well for me.

The story with Zoom goes back before Covid with Eric Yuan, a former WebEx employee who left to build his own vision for video-conferencing. Zoom was experiencing years of significant growth pre-Covid as companies all over the world were ditching old legacy solutions for the hot new trend in meetings — Zoom. Companies were leaving WebEx, GoToMeeting, and Google to try out this hot new item. This is exactly why I’m still a big fan and see another record breaking year for this fast growing Tech company. I’m predicting that 2021 will be big for Zoom.

Zoom Revenue Growth

  • Q4 FY 2020: $188 million (+77% YoY)
  • Q1 FY 2021: $328 million (+169%)
  • Q2 2021: $663 million (+355%)
  • Q3 2021: $777 million (+366%)

Before Covid, you can see that Zoom was growing at 77% YoY in that quarter before the virus was here. As Covid spread around the world, you can see the revenue growth at Zoom go through the roof. This type of growth is record breaking and shows the extreme demand that companies had for this product. Note: I did
